Most smartphones are huge. Since Samsung’s Galaxy A3 falls (2016) on: With 4.7 inches and noble housing, it looks like a shrunken Galaxy S6. Convinced there in the test?
Since almost two years Samsung has introduced no mini version of its Galaxy S model range more. Although devices such as Galaxy S3 Mini, S4 Mini and S5 Mini were just popular in Germany, there was the Galaxy S6 never own mini version. But not anymore: While the Galaxy A3 is different, but united in its 2016er-edition at first glance everything you also from a S6 Mini would expect. Whether it also keeps up technically, shows the laboratory test.
Design at your fingertips
At the sight of the new Galaxy A3 likely especially the heart beat of those higher that previously hoped in vain for a mini Galaxy S6. Because with its 4.7-inch diagonal, the A3-generation 2016 is about as big as the iPhone 6S – and next to the Sony Z5 Compact one of the few brands smartphones with sophisticated design, good technique and a handy form factor. A massive, pleasantly rounded metal frame, plus front and rear sides of high-quality glass – like the big brother Galaxy A5 also resembles the Galaxy A3 externally modeled S6. It looks so high than the very first Galaxy A3 from 2014 aluminum. Compared this model the screen is minimal grown from 4.5 inches to 4.7 inches. The housing is still easier to use than most other current Galaxy models. Only the smooth glass back is a bit slippery. The most important structural difference to S6: In the SIM card slot (small Nano SIM format) hiding Samsung a trough for micro SD XC memory cards up to 128 gigabytes (GB). The missing the Galaxy S6.
Where Samsung has saved?
A further advantage in addition to the handy size: The Galaxy A3 (2016) is low for a smartphone with premium design: If you compare the price recommendations, the A3 with 329 euros is almost 300 euros cheaper. For this must be saved in comparison with the design model S6 course. And so the Galaxy A3 pulls in sober comparison of data sheets clearly the short straw against the flagship: The processor has four instead of eight cores and is clocked lower. The RAM (1.5 GB) is smaller, the camera has fewer megapixels (13 instead of 16) and the screen is not nearly as sharp. These are missing in comparison to its big brother Galaxy A5 practical niceties like fingerprint scanners and turbo-charging function.
So the Galaxy A3 kicks in Test
But in practice, most of the differences in pleasure to solve: The operating and operating speed of the new A-Class is high, only a touch lower than the S6. And although equipped on the paper with a weaker heart that is A3 reacted throughout liquid at the classic applications. The camera made in good lighting in the laboratory even partly better photos than the S6. Only in low light the Primus wins the picture duel. Proposes also the display, the Galaxy A3 (2016) not too bad off: The brightness is extremely high with 664 cd / m2, almost like the S6. As usual, this maximum value can reach but only if the automatic brightness control. In the display resolution, the A3 (1280×720 points) must be clearly beaten the S6 (2560×1440 pixels). Nevertheless, it must be observed: On the small A3 display you see any pixels, it is sharp enough for everyday use. And compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy A3 2015, the HD display is a clear progress.
Back to the old virtues
In a detail showing the new Galaxy A3 and also the Galaxy A5 what is coming from the Galaxy S7 may expect: a return to old virtues, at least partially. After all, unlike the design model S6 A3 and A5 have a memory card slot, located on the left to expand the volume by up to 128 gigabytes in the test. Admittedly, the internal memory of the A3 and A5 is 11.04 gigabytes freely usable over the Galaxy S6 (up to 128 gigabytes) downright puny, so only the shaft brings much-needed extra sip of memory. For Samsung demonstrated with O devices that also metal finish can accommodate a memory card slot. This gives us hope for the Galaxy S7. Only a removable battery and a waterproof case you have to give also the A3, the offers from the newer mid-range models, only the Galaxy S5 neoand of course, the Galaxy S5.
Battery: Galaxy A suggests S-Class
The battery life is one of the few negative points of the S6. In typical usage mix it not even holding by 10 hours. Because the new A-Class draws loosely past: The A3 held by nearly 4 hours longer than the S6. Great! The larger Galaxy A5 lasts even an hour longer, which is not surprising: With 2,900 milliamp hours (mAh) battery is stronger than in the A3 (2,300 mAh). A wireless or fast charging does not support the Galaxy A3.
Galaxy A3: Some extras missing
If you look at the finer points more closely, but some facilities weaknesses of the A-Class revealed: wireless charging? Wrong! Fingerprint Sensor? Not in the A3, A5 only. Even fast charging via Turbo power supply you are looking at smaller A3 vain. And at video shoots waived the A-Class to 4K and the popular super slow motion.
Galaxy A3 (2016): Who needs it?
Those looking for a handy Android phone and can do without extras such as turbochargers or fingerprint sensor is correct when comparatively favorable A3. As a handy relative of S6 It offers everything would wish customers a Galaxy mini S6. Who however uninhibited surfing on a smartphone, will look and play videos, should rather resort to a device with a larger display. For the same price one gets about the Galayy S5Neo. Or for around 100 euros more the big brother Galaxy A5.
