By following these tips from essay writing service you will learn how to write your own “A” paper. Start by focusing on one or two tips until they become habits. Then, follow another set. With time, you will have all the tips down. Your writing will impress even the strictest instructor.
1. Sentence Length
Your advanced English class is sentence length. To ensure your reader remains captivated, switch between short and long sentences. Some types of writing are more interesting when the text is easier to read. But, an excess of short sentences in a row sound stale and robotic. When writing, break up long sentences with semicolons and commas where appropriate. Doing so adds natural pauses and seamless flow to sentences without them sounding choppy.
2. Clearer Pronouns
When you say “this book” or “that bus” or “it,” it is unclear which book, or bus, or thing you are referring to. When you use “she” or “he” or “these students,” your reader will not struggle to figure out who these people are. For example, in the sentences:
Susan told Sharon that she was on her way.
Susan told Sharon, “I am on my way.”
3. No Redundancy
When writing, many writers use wordy sentences. This is not to assert that long sentences cannot be used (because they can). But, a majority of the time, writers use more words than necessary to get their point across. For example, in the sentence:
Robert was supposed to have his car fuelled every 4,000 miles, and since it had been 4,000 miles since his last fuel re-fill, he took his car to the petrol station.
This sentence is okay, and it makes sense. Although, the statement could be more precise if it were phrased differently. The sentence would be improved if the action was described first, followed by the reason:
Robert went to the petrol station to fuel his car because it had been more than 4,000 miles since he last fuelled it.
4. No Modifiers
Misplaced or dangling modifiers modify a word in an ambiguous an illogic manner. When writing, eliminate misplaced or dangling modifiers by placing adverbs or adjectives before the word it modifies. A dangling participle is a result of ordering a sentence in a confusing way. For example:
“After fermenting in the cellar for one year, the waiter brought up some red wine.”
This means that the waiter is a zombie whose work is to serve wine.
Try Instead:
“The waiter brought up some wine that had been fermenting in the cellar for one year.
5. Do Not Use Overusing Parentheses
You can use parentheses to set off material that is not fundamental to your main topic, like a funny joke or an afterthought. But, if the material is fundamental to your topic, use commas and avoid parentheses. For instance:
“John Smith (the deacon of the Church) opened a home for the homeless.”
The parenthesis in this sentence is surrounding additional information about John Smith. Use commas instead of brackets for a more formal writing style.
John Smith, the deacon of the Church, opened a home for the homeless.
When you avoid overusing parentheses, you demonstrate your advanced English vocabulary.
6. Use Strong Words
Phrases and words that do not add to the overall meaning of your text are clutter. You can have advanced essay writing skills when you start cutting weak phrases and words from your text. For example:
Words | Reasons | Options |
Really, deeply | Vague | Delete |
I think | Not sure | Remove |
Them | Not specific | Define |
Are, was, am, is | Passive voice | Write using the active voice |
Very | Unnecessary | Replace |
Flowery language can be risky. Itcan take the reader out of the story. When you feel like you want to spice up your writing by using more adverbs and adjectives, look at your verbs more closely.
7. Include Parallel Construction
A parallel construction refers to using the samepattern of words to demonstrate that two or more words are of equal importance. For example:
“Between” and “And”
Incorrect: We discussed the difference between the weather in Ontario in the summer and how cold it is in the winter.
Correct:We discussed the difference between the weather in Ontario in the summer and the weather in Ontarioin the winter.
“Not Only” and “But Also”
Incorrect: I was shocked not only that he bought the car, but he also bought it at the dealer’s asking price.
Correct: I was shocked not only that he bought the car but also that he bought it at the dealer’s asking price.
Parallel Construction in a series
Incorrect: The pupils were rowdy, unprepared, and disrupted the lesson.
Correct: The pupils were rowdy, unprepared, and disruptive.
Now, the series hasparallel elements (rowdy, unprepared, and disruptive are all adjectives).
