Give Teens a Voice in the 2008 Presidential Campaign
As the 2008 presidential election draws near, the focus is on the candidates and how voters will respond. However, there is a question of whether the outcome would be the same if teenagers under the age of 18 had the chance to express their opinions. This summer, Selena Gomez, a Disney star, and General Growth Properties, Inc. (NYSE:GGP), the owner/developer of shopping centers and entertainment venues for teenagers worldwide, are collaborating to engage America’s youth in a unique and interactive teen election called UR Votes Count.
UR Votes Count is an exceptional experience that aims to educate and involve teenagers in timely and relevant issues that impact the nation and the world. It also provides them with the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate for the presidency of the United States. This campaign allows teenagers to unite their voices, potentially influencing this year’s election and making a significant impact in the 2012 election when most of them will be eligible to vote.
Selena Gomez, the national spokesperson for UR Votes Count, will kick off the campaign on August 16 at noon at Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California. UR Votes Count will take place in 150 malls across America, spanning 42 states over a period of six weeks. The events will commence on August 16, 2008, and conclude on September 21, 2008. “I believe it is crucial for young people to vote and have their voices heard,” expressed Selena Gomez, the national spokesperson and actress/singer for UR Votes Count. “As a teenager myself, I strongly believe that it is essential for us to be well-informed about the issues that affect us all. This way, when we become eligible to vote, we will be fully prepared to exercise one of our greatest privileges and responsibilities.”
UR Votes Count provides teenagers with a national platform to discuss various topics, including the environment, healthcare, the Iraq war, social security, national security, and education. After reviewing the facts on these subjects, teenagers will have the opportunity to cast their votes on the issues and select their preferred presidential candidate.
