Rakghoul Serum Side Quest – Taris (Kotor 1)
A rakghoul serum was an ingredient that was able to cure the plague of rakghouls which, after infecting one person, could turn the patient to an Rogue.
In the Jedi Civil War, a test sample that contained the cure was developed by Republic scientists. It was then duplicated several thousand times to treat the Outcasts in the restoration of the Republic’s Taris. The Republic was home to an bases located in Taris’s Upper City as the main center of the restoration process as well as the site where the scientist developed the cure. However there was a problem. The Sith army took notice to the public and attacked. After shoring the Republic out they took over their base. It was discovered that the troops of Sith took samples of rakghoul serum for patrolling in the Undercity to search for the destroyed Republic escape pods left behind by their destruction of the Endar Spire. The Sith encountered so many times with the rakghouls that the were out of serum at the time Revan arrived in the Undercity but there were some troopers who died were carrying serum samples in their bodies.
In his search to escape Taris, Revan found a sample of the serum in the Undercity and handed it over the Zelka Forn who was Zelka Forn, the Upper City doctor. He created the serum, distributing the serum to all who were infected and then gave it to the healer for the Outcasts, Esala who utilized it to treat Infected Outcasts on their way toward their journey to the Promised Land. As they entered their destination, the Promised Land, it was not what they expected. The infrastructure, buildings and defenses had been destroyed from the Sith. With no protection, the rakghouls were able to attack Outcasts but the spread of disease was stopped with the help of the serum. The rakghouls kept evolving however, and, over time, acquired resistance to serum. There was no defense from the spread of rakghoul virus, and with an ill-fated and bombed-out world all around them the Outcasts were eventually eradicated out.
In 3643 BC The rakghoul serum was rediscovered by pirates who discovered an unused sample in Zelka Forn’s abandoned second medical facility located in the Undercity. The serum was offered to an unnamed Jedi and then found its way into hands of an Republic doctor. The rakghouls, however, were immune to the serum before the Outcasts were removed, and it wasn’t much more effective three hundred years after. A new serum would need been created in order to be effective, and to do this, a new individual must be infected to create new antibodies. These could be then analyzed and synthesized. The infection that was controlled was passed to the subject after which the antibodies were isolated and a new, better serum was made and then, again it was made in large quantities.
