ASTM was founded under the name of the American Section of the International Association for Testing Materials in 1898. Additionally, it began its existence prior to many other standards organisations like IEC (1906), BSI (1901), IEC (1906), BSI (1901), ANSI (1981), DIN (1917), ISO (1947) along with AFNOR (1926). ASTM has a committee made up of professionals from the industry who help to create ASTM standards covering a broad range of materials, products, and services. They regularly meet with an open and transparent process.
