What to Do: Black Marsh (WP) > The Forgotten Tower
Zone Level: Nightmare: 42 – Hell: 79 (Level 5)
Golden Chest: No
Boss/Champ Packs: 1 – 2 per level
Hell Immunities: Cold (The Countess, Dark Stalker), Fire (Devilkin, Blood Clan), Lightning (Dark Archer), Ghost (Physical)
The Countess is among the most well-known early game farms because she will drop a Rune almost every killing you do. In fact, during Nightmare, she’s capable of dropping at least 6. Runes (though you’ll never get three or any more)! If you can farm her long enough, it can allow you to craft any of the Runewords you require to build your character.

Because of this, the Countess is among the most frequently encountered early-farmed bosses at the beginning of every Ladder or anyone who is a Single Player who wishes to get ready with Runewords to play Nightmare as well as Hell. Most people avoid all the junk in The Countess when they complete these runs, and the amount of trash you want to skip in The Tower dungeon as a total.
The idea is to run across The Tower as fast as possible, kill the Countess, collect the High Runes she dropped, and then quit the game to run again. There are two points worth noting about the Lady Countess… One is that she will always appear on the opposite side of the room when you enter.
Then, based on your map layout, the Countess could be tied in her room. You’ll have the ability to get her minions from the room, but she’ll never go out of the room. You can utilize this to your advantage if you aren’t well equipped or leveled or farming with Hell difficulty.
If you’re curious about the High Runes available on the Countess, based on the game’s difficulty, take a look at my lists below. Remember that the Loot Table of the Countess also works differently than regular enemies in terms of dropping Runes. In essence, she will have one specific Rune drop and an additional bonus Rune drop.
Regular Rune Drop Table
Normal: El – Ral
Nightmare: El – Io
Hell: El – Ist
Bonus Rune Drop Table
Normal: El – Ral
Nightmare: El-Ko
Hell: El-Lo
The standard Rune drop tables are the ones she drops each when you kill her. It contains the most common Runes on the table. The bonus loot table usually has the same Runes as the primary loot table, but with the addition of four or two rarer ones. The Countess can drop up to six runes total in introducing this guide. One of them is always from her regular loot tables, and the others which drop are via her Bonus Table.
The last thing to mention is that if you’re playing on a single Player, I highly recommend keeping the game’s settings to one Player, as this will increase your chances of winning a Rune from the Lady Countess’s loot table. If you increase the number of players playing, you’ll increase the number of Magical items you can collect at the hands of The Countess. This will decrease the chances of finding additional Runes since a Magical thing that is dropped can be used instead of an actual Rune.
The Countess Normal difficulty High Rune is available.
